Craptacular Wonderment asked:

I’m considering building a rustic campsite on my land.. I have a wonderful large valley and huge hill that would help keep the pond full when it rains, plus it would provide water for the wildlife around…

Who would I contact to help me plan a pond for free, or is there a website that gives good examples that I could get basic ideas from?

Thank You Very Much .. for your time!
OK.. I left out some details.. I am on bed rock, I have a skidsteer loader and tracks…and Missouri Mud RED CLAY is plantiful in the valley.. My concerns are mostly with road run off that I do not want to contaminate my pond, and keeping the fish healthy, along with design and whatever the pond needs to stay healthy natually, or with other systems installed to keep it healthy if i need to add them.
You guys are all too good.. having a very difficult time choosing between since each has good points…I should say I am thinking of a half acre pond, not a little garden pond, my valley can support it.. but that leaves local laws, since I live upward from a natural river, if I will be able to build it and land surveys if it will hold water, since I hadn’t really though about the caves that are near me, i could have an underground area that would drain my pond…hmm.. well that said.. boillerrat I’ll check with the services you’ve mentioned..and if the pond holds water, everyone is welcome to fish, or skinny dip..but hopefully not at the same time.

I had a small pond dug out and it’s not holding water more than two days. It’s about 6 feet deep, 8 feet wide and 20 feet long. My neighbors are full of suggestions on putting some pigs in it to seal it and I don’t want them to get out. (like my neighbors do) I also need to know what and how much to feed them and do I need one or two to seal this little pond.

I live in Texas, and lots of small ponds around here that have bass and crappie. But I’ll try to bassfish sometimes, and after awhile of catching nothing, I figure it doesn’t have bass. So how can i tell if the pond really does have bass? Is there some way to tell by how the fish are biting like crazy in the mornings, which bite is a bass?

I have a small 2 acre pond that has a dam on one end. It is about 12′ high and about 10′ wide. Recently my pond started leaking. I can see the water coming out of the bottom of the dam and going into the creek. How can I stop this leak? It isn’t a huge amount of water but it’s enough to drop the level in the pond about 1″ every 3-4 days (which adds up!) It’s driving me crazy and I think my pond may dry up and I will loose all my fish. Thanks very much.
Brilliant answer by Loofa - thanks that’s helpful

I have 3 red eared slider turtles, approx a year and a half old. They are growing quickly and I wanted to create an outdoor pond environment for them. I live in the panhandle of Florida. How do i set it up? What is required? Do I build a wall around the pond? Will I have to worry about predators, like hawks and racoons? How do I provide a safe environment for my kids’ pets but reclaim my living room from the massive aquarium?

I have a garden pond, that runs through all 4 seasons. I was wondering if there were any tips or suggestions on how I should go about the maintenance of the pond.
All suggestions and tips are very much appreciated.
