Well, my pond is full of these things, and the pond is full of holes, some wholes are as big as your fist! My pond will leak down pretty quickly. I have tried Bentinite(lots of it) and the pond still leaks. I really think if the crawdad or crayfish were not in our pond then the pond it would hold water. And maybe then the bentinite would fix the holes. But these things were still there after we put about 400 lbs of bentinite in the pond, Now the pond is about 1/4 of a acer and so that is not really big-So could someone please help?? Because right now it has some water but as the weather heats up i assume it will go dry. It went dry last year. The only thing the pond is good for at this moment is for the grandbabys to catch lobsters!!! (LOL) So please, does anyone have any idea on what i should do?

I have a 500 gallon pond with koi fish. Bees have discovered it as a water source and have become a problem.

I am not afraid of bees, I know that if you don’t bother them, they won’t bother you.

My pond is only 5 feet across so I can’t just let them have their space. There are 10 bees there at any given time.

It’s gotten to the point that I can’t get close to the pond during the day without stirring them up. I have to do everything at night with lights on which is a pain.

The bees are coming for the water, the hive is not on my property and I know what direction they are flying to but not where they are going.

Will anything deter them? I can’t spray anything because of the pond plants and fish.

I’ve resorted to catching them with a net and stepping on them but I don’t really want to kill them, I just want them to go somewhere else.

I know they won’t bother me if they aren’t provoked but it is hard to watch my koi fish eat with 10-15 bees buzzing around my head!

I have a grass carp (about 20 inches long) in an outside pond. Every summer he/she likes to bask in the sun with the top of his head out of the water. This area of his skin, which is normally black, quickly goes white and pink and looks very unhealthy. I fear he will get skin cancer as each year it is worse, and this year it has started early. So far, it all heals up over winter.

Every time he is disturbed he gets back in the sun after a few seconds. He shares the pond with numerous gold fish and they don’t have the same problem.

I don’t think sun cream or wearing a hat are viable options, and I don’t want to shade the whole pond.

Location SW England about 50 degrees North.
Thanks for suggestions so far. You are quite right about pond weed, lilly pads etc and I have lots of these, but this fish seeks out the gaps! I might just add that this fish has full control of its swim bladder and makes a conscious choice to break the surface.

I am putting in a new 16′x16′ pond. I am doing my best not to “marry” the project once it is complete. Water evaporation is an issue. I am looking for a mechanism that similar to a toilet, will sense the water level in the pond and add appropriate amounts automatically.

We recently bought a house with a small outdoor concrete pond. We were told by the previous owners at closing that they used to keep fish in the pond.
It looks like it holds around 60 - 80 gallons of water. There is a drain hole right in the center, but there is no pump or filter. It hasn’t held fish for a some time since the sellers had rented the house for a few years before selling.
What do we need to do to turn this into a fish pond? I’m willing to tackle almost any DIY project, but I would prefer not to have to dig up my yard if it can be avoided.

I have over 400 gallons in aquariums and I just got a 100 gallon. I was wondering if I could use my goldfish/koi pond water to help get it t started? The pond is 1500 gallons, so if I filled it up the pond wouldn’t miss it. The pond doesn’t have any problems with algae, the fish are in perfect health and the pond is self-sustaining. I only have a small fountain in the middle to help oxygenate the water.
I have already set up quite a few aquariums successfully. I don’t need anymore education on that.

The water in my pond is balanced. The ammonia, nitrates, ph level ETC are all where they should be. I won’t use spring water, either. It’s no better than tap.
Yes, setting up an aquarium successfully is a good feeling, but I have done so for 5 20 gallons, 2 50 gallons, 2 75 gallons, and 5 10 gallons. After awhile it loses it’s touch.

Yes, I am going it put goldfish in it. I don’t have any in the house yet and I would love to.

Hello,

I have a very small pond, maybe 70 gallons…It is in the middle of our patio and has 3 large waterfalls going into it with a small stream with another 3 small waterfalls…

To help keep it clean, I am putting tube socks over the intake valves on the pumps…While we never planned on any wild life, a frog moved in, and we want to make sure he is healthy.

The water gets a little stinky because he eats a ton…I am considering putting in some plants. Will this make the water dirtier or cleaner? I have been changing the water weekly and adding some of the stuff from my aquarium to de-chlorinate it..

Are Plants a good or bad idea?
