Need a pond plant to put in a pottery fountain. Only thing is the opening is only about 18 inches, so the plant will be right next to the fountain. I need a pond plant that does well in turbulent waters. Will papyrus work? Any other suggestions?

Since the pond is small (<800 gal) I think I want a smaller pump for the pond and filter and then something like a 3000 GPH pump to take water from the pond and circulate it to the top of the stream and waterfall. This way I can also turn the waterfall off and would use less filter material for the pond. Does this make sense?

I don’t have plants this year because every previous year I’ve tried and they turn yellow. I have some koi and some various other goldfish and they are healthy and large. I’m wondering if they were eating the roots and subsequently killing the plants from underneath. I never saw them doing this, and I feed my fish pretty well, so they shouldn’t be hungry. I’d like to have plants again but I don’t see the point. Also, when I had plants last year, I had a huge amount of that hairy algae that I’d never had a problem with before. Plants are supposed to be beneficial but something’s wrong with the balance of my pond, apparently. It’s in almost full sun and it’s hot and humid in the summers here in Illinois. Any ideas why I have trouble?
Guys, I’m assuming you’re joking about too much water. These were floating POND plants like water lettuce and lilly pads. Ya don’t water them since they live in water…

I should mention our water here where I live is EXTREMELY hard. Would that do it?

My husband and I would love to build a koi pond next year and I am just full of questions!

I keep reading about the noticeable increase in energy bills but haven’t found any estimates.

I suppose it would be important to ask what size your pond is and how often you have to use the heater as well…?

Thank you for any information you can give me!

I have three common goldfish that are 3-4 inches each that I’m planning to give to my grandma for her pond late this spring. Is there anything I should do to prepare the fish for the switch from aquarium to pond? I’ve had them since dec. of 07. Oh and suggestions for travel with them is good too. It’s about a 30 minute trip.
